The National Meat Institute (INAC) has approved the first protocol of good animal husbandry practices, seeking to recover the Uruguayan exports lost from not having such requirements in place. For markets like the European Union, this issue could become a non-tariff trade barrier.

Commentary on the previous week
Feeder cattle prices were generally $1-2.00 higher in most areas last week, with most of the advance early in the week. Recent gains in fed cattle and live cattle futures prices have strengthened feeder cattle demand. Feeder cattle futures followed the pattern of live cattle futures with small gains Monday and modest losses Tuesday. Most months closed slightly higher Wednesday and also Thursday in sympathy with deferred live cattle contracts. Futures closed modestly lower Friday, ending the week $0.32-0.57 lower.
